Voice Of Volume
Have you ever been in a situation where you felt under qualified? Have you ever let what someone else said define you? How about applying for that first job while you’re in high school with no experience at all? What happens when you get the job but you feel like you don’t know what you’re doing and don’t know how you are ever going to live up to the expectations? The volume of that voice in your head that shouts doubts and what-if’s can sometimes be really loud.
I would imagine that Paul and Timothy would have faced this same voice while doing ministry together. Paul brought the good news of Jesus to the ends of the earth and pushed boundaries left and right. When he started doing ministry, he would have 100% felt under qualified to do all he was called to. Paul was a Jewish man, so he would of known the old testament front to back, but people would have questioned the legitimacy of his word because of his past. And Timothy, a man asked by Paul to lead the church, to lead the people, to even lead John, one of Jesus’ closest disciples.
I imagine Timothy was thinking to himself, “I’m not strong enough to do this. My capacity is nothing like Paul’s to be doing this. Are you sure it’s me? I’m too young to do this.” I’m pretty sure doubt, fear, anxiety and worry clouded every thought. But throughout 1st and 2nd Timothy, we find Paul reminding Timothy that those feelings aren’t from Jesus. He encouraged him in his calling and his God-given purpose.
What about you? How many times have you felt under qualified for something? How many times have you said “no” to that God Dream in your heart because you felt like you couldn’t finish the race? How many times have you backed down because the negative voice was shouting again. Sometimes, we give in to that voice and we only focus on the things that we think could get in our way instead of filling our minds with all of the truth that helps us to complete what He puts on our hearts. This is why I want to remind you today: what Jesus says about you needs to be turned up! His voice is much louder than what the enemy says, what the world says, and what your doubt says.
We are strengthened when we have Jesus beside us. He is there in times of difficulty and danger, and His presence is filled with so much more than other people and things we sometimes let speak into our lives.
The voices of the world are turned up to full blast, so often those are the voices we let influence us. It’s hard to tune out something at such a high volume. I believe today though, that the voices in our youth ministry have enough volume to overpower the other noise around us and shape the world to be a better place. When we let what Jesus says about us define us and our voice, we have the power to change the narrative. I challenge you to put the volume of the world on mute and to turn His volume up louder and louder! Let your voice be a VOICE OF VOLUME.

We’re coming out of one of the best weeks of our lives! Summer Camp was unforgettable, but it can be pretty hard to keep up that feeling of camp hype when we’re back home. It can be easy to feel alone or be unmotivated to keep showing up to youth, your connect group, or Sunday service. But you’re actually not alone! We are kicking off the next 7 days with an awesome devotional because the hype DOES NOT END AT CAMP.
