Eyes Up – Jesus Have Your Way
So on day seven, we go on a journey in the book of Luke where we encounter a few people: a man named Jarius who desperately needed Jesus to heal his daughter, and a woman with an issue of blood who needed healing as well. For 12 years she’s struggled, but we learn from her story that if we can keep our eyes up, if we can focus our eyes on Jesus and not on our circumstance, then we have the ability, the strength and the fight to keep moving forward.
It’s not always easy to do this though. We might as ourselves, how can I keep my eyes on Jesus and let him have his way ? What does that even look like? My circumstance is heavy and it’s so easy for me to lose focus and keep my eyes on something, anything other than UP AND ON JESUS. What do I need to do to keep the perspective that Jesus is having His way despite what I see in front of me? You know, the other side of this story is this man Jarius. He probably had to deal with the same things and fight the same feelings. Both of these people did something special, they came to Jesus.
We can learn a few lessons from these two stories that will help us to keep our eyes up:
1. Welcome Jesus in
Has anyone ever been somewhere where you didn’t feel wanted or welcomed? By far one of the worst feelings in the world!
I think sometimes we could possibly make Jesus feel that way… Jesus comes in knocking gently, we let him into our homes… our heart and we don’t offer him water, we don’t let him take a seat on our couch. We eat, sleep and do life right around Him. But, who knows that Jesus would gladly take whatever you offer Him and sit there waiting patiently for whenever you’re ready.
I believe for Jesus to have His way, He needs to be let in. Jesus will never force Himself into a situation with you. Once you surrender it to Him, welcome Him in to walk out the process with you.
2. Don’t get caught up with what is happening around you, Jesus is working within you.
Sometimes we forget in the midst of Jesus being your personal savior that He is everyone’s personal savior… Jesus is having HIS way in the lives of the people around you. So, as Jesus is walking to the house WITH Jarius we see the lady with the issue of 12 years getting healed because of her faith and her fight to get near enough to touch Jesus.
Youth, let us use the miracles of others that we see happening around us to know that our God is real and that our God is working. We could continue to have this attitude of “what about me, where is my miracle?”. Or we could have the perspective to believe my God is always working. So be encouraged by the work he is doing in EVERYONE.
We could easily fall into the pit of what about mine, am I doing something wrong, am I praying the wrong prayer, am I sinning, am I doing this walk wrong? Lets have faith to know that Jesus knows what He is doing within us. We don’t know how long the person who is receiving the blessing has been waiting for it, praying for it, struggling for it, fighting for it.
Welcoming Jesus in means that He will lead you on the easy days, the tough days, and everyday in between. Its means that he will be closer to you than any person ever will be. Be your comfort when you need it. Your rock when you’re weak. Your friend when you’re lonely. Your joy when life is painful. Jesus wants to be with you always. Let’s make sure that we welcome Him to be all He wants to be for us.

We’re coming out of one of the best weeks of our lives! Summer Camp was unforgettable, but it can be pretty hard to keep up that feeling of camp hype when we’re back home. It can be easy to feel alone or be unmotivated to keep showing up to youth, your connect group, or Sunday service. But you’re actually not alone! We are kicking off the next 7 days with an awesome devotional because the hype DOES NOT END AT CAMP.
