Many Are Called, Few Are Appointed
God has historically and even today called so many people to the table to sup with Him, but few have accepted the invitation. Refusal to accept Jesus is choosing eternal condemnation.
There were many throughout Scripture whom Jesus appointed to do great things. There are a couple specifically who stand out to me.
There was Joseph, called to suffering so that certain things could build within him in order to later have the ability to save his entire family, even though his brothers rejected him and sold him off to the Ishmaelites. I am inclined to believe, based on Scripture, that Joseph's brothers Reuben and Judah were also appointed. Even though all of the brothers were jealous and angry enough with Joseph to kill him, it was Reuben and Judah who talked the other brothers into selling him instead of killing him, which strangely brought forth the saving of all their lives later. (Gen. 50:20)
Rahab the prostitute (odd how THAT is how she was and will always be described from her story in Scripture) was another who was specifically appointed. She was the only one in her village willing to take in the spies Joshua sent and hide them so they could fulfill God's plan to destroy Jericho. God's plan was to use Rahab later as a part of the lineage through which God's very own Son, Jesus Christ, would come into the world! Talk about a flawed person who was greatly used to save the entire world, not JUST her family! Somehow, even though Rahab had been living in sin for quite some time at the point of their coming into town, she felt the Holy Spirit instruct her to obey and allow them in. This saved her AND her immediate family then and for all eternity, even though everyone else in the city was destroyed.
An unnamed rich man in Matthew 19:16-26 attempted to hang with Christ in conversation, asking a very specific question: "What GOOD DEED must I do to have eternal life?" What this man could not fully grasp is that the real riches truly lie within Jesus, and not the earthly stuff. Because he was so materialistic, he forfeited his invitation to be in heaven for all of eternity and walked away very sad.
You see, there is a certain sacrifice and suffering that goes along with the promises of eternity secured with pure perfection in heaven!
Do you have what it takes to secure your spot?
