Is Coronavirus a Judgment from God?

DAY 4 OF 7

In the new covenant, God is not striking the world for their sins. Instead, our message to those around us is that God’s desire is to reconcile them in Christ:

All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God.
2 Corinthians 5:18-20

Do we tell people that God is injecting the world with a deadly virus, or do we tell them that God loves them and wants a relationship with them? The Apostle Paul is very clear: it’s the latter!

Doesn’t the cross of Christ matter to our take on the coronavirus? Doesn’t the cross of Christ matter as we seek to understand who God is and what He is doing in the midst of this pandemic? Of course, it does.

There is already great fear and anxiety among so many in our world. The last thing we believers should do is show up on the scene to heap guilt on the situation. Because of the cross and resurrection, the offer of forgiveness and new life is on the table. That's the message we carry:

He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant—not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life. 2 Corinthians 3:6

God is Love

Coronavirus is not God’s judgment on the world. “Christian Karma,” the idea that the price for our sins is a pandemic or a natural disaster, is false. It’s a lie. The Cross of Christ destroys all Karma. God wants to save the world, not hurl disaster at it.

How do we know what God feels about us? The Bible tells us where to look if we want to find God’s love clearly demonstrated:

But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8

If we want to see what God feels about us, we should look the Cross. This is God’s clearest demonstration of His love. He didn’t want there to be any doubt, so He sent His Son to give His very life for us. This is how much you are worth to God: You are worth Jesus!
