Is Coronavirus a Judgment from God?Sample
When we imagine that coronavirus is God’s wrath or God’s judgment, we downplay the importance of the Cross itself.
Remember that the payment for sin is death. Not illness, not suffering, not some people dying: the price of sin is spiritual death for everyone.
But then Jesus died. His sacrifice on the Cross paid our debt in full. Now, there is nothing left to pay. Thanks to the cross, we have been forgiven from our sins, freed from any punishment from God. Through the cross, we are saved from all wrath (Romans 5:9), and there is no condemnation for those of us who are in relationship with Jesus (Romans 8:1).
Not only did God completely forgive us of all our sins, He also gifted us with new spiritual life in Him.
When you were dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made you alive. He forgave us all our sins. Colossians 2:13
At the Cross, Jesus became sin for us (2 Corinthians 5:21). In so doing, He paid the ultimate price. The wages of sin is death, not a chest cold or a virus. No, the wages of sin is death. Jesus died. We can do the math and celebrate.
Taste and See that the Lord is Good!
We live in a fallen world. In this world, we see sin, disaster, and suffering of all kinds. As a result of the fall of humanity, we also see flawed DNA, disease, and death. But God did not author these. None of these existed in Eden.
God created a perfect world. It was only when we humans decided to take matters into our own hands that the world became imperfect. God is still good, even while our own fallen world hurls disaster at us and even when we reap the earthly consequences of poor choices we and others make.
Yes, we can give thanks to God for every good thing (James 1:17). But where does all the bad in this world come from? There are many actors at work: the fallen world in general; the enemy, Satan; billions of other humans on this planet; and diseases like coronavirus that already run rampant.
But here’s the difference: Planet Earth comes at us to attack us and bring us down. Christ works in us to love us and build us up in Him (Colossians 2:7).
We are even invited to comfort others in the process. God tells us to “grieve with those who grieve” (Romans 12:15). Is this not what He is doing Himself as our world suffers from a devastating pandemic?
God is our Counselor, our Comforter, and our Helper in this time of trouble. It is essential that we remember this during this difficult time. Now, more than ever, we need to know God’s love found in Jesus. The God who is good; the God of all comfort; this is our God.
Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him. Psalm 34:8
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. 2 Corinthians 1:3-4
