River Valley Church SOAP - Part 5Sample

Job is an incredibly interesting book in the fact that the account does not take place in Israel. In fact, Job isn't even an Israelite! Job is found to be blameless and upright, and has favor with God. Satan, in Hebrew translated to "The Accuser," says that Job only honors God because he is being blessed. If Job were to suffer, he certainly would curse God. God allows Job to be tested, and we never find out an answer why. The main question that the book seems to drive toward is this: Is God just? Job's three friends are also symbolic of the most common intellectual view of God during that time, and we see Job and his friends go back and forth on what God is like and why this is happening to Job.
