The Road to ChristmasSample
Who Invented Christmas
There are very few stories that have been able to transcend generations like A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. The movie, The Man Who Invented Christmas, is the retelling of the events of the six weeks it took for Dickens to write this classic novella.
As a Christian, I know that Charles Dickens did not invent Christmas. Still, this provocative title does beg the question, who did ‘invent’ Christmas? Luke began the biographical elements of the true history of Christmas in the book that carries his name.
So, was it Luke or was it the early Christian church that invented Christmas? Even though they helped in forming what we know today, the truth is that this holiday could only be ‘invented’ by God. The first Christmas present was the birth of God’s Son, a gift of true unconditional love. God became a man to save the world. A gracious gift was given to mankind. A one-time event that was unlike any other in history.
Check out the story in Luke 1–2. Every detail, every bit of drama and even the supernatural aspects make such a beloved special event. The best place to truly engage with the true story of Christmas is to go to the source.

About this Plan
Over the course of 10 days, we will consider the events in the arrival of our Saviour. How the word became flesh, the virgin teenager who became the mother of our Saviour King, her husband’s wrestle with heart and mind, the birth of their son, the one who would rescue us all, the prophesies of Anna and Simeon, the heartbreak of a nation and the Saviour King becoming a refugee.
