The Road to Christmas

DAY 6 OF 10

Sacrificial Love

Christmas is a season of such great promise. When Jesus was born, it was the fulfilment of God’s Word to the world that He would send us our Saviour and make Himself tangibly known to mankind.

Mary was at the epicentre of God’s promise, giving birth to the Messiah and being told about what was to come.

The news of Jesus’ arrival spread, with the shepherds making their way to the stable and King Herod seeking out the child who threatened his throne.

As things got louder around Mary, and the significance of Jesus’ birth was being realised, this verse shows how steady Mary remained.

Witnessing the angels worship Jesus and the shepherds excitedly speak about His birth, Mary calmly took it all in. The activity she saw around her was God doing what He had told her He would do, and she had the presence of mind to take it in and appreciate it.

Mary pondered the faithfulness of God while the promise itself was being fulfilled, and no doubt thought on the things God told her about Jesus that hadn’t been seen yet.

This Christmas, let’s not forgot how God has shown Himself in the midst of it. He has been faithful, and He will be faithful, and, thanks to Him, Jesus is beside us all the way.

About this Plan

The Road to Christmas

Over the course of 10 days, we will consider the events in the arrival of our Saviour. How the word became flesh, the virgin teenager who became the mother of our Saviour King, her husband’s wrestle with heart and mind, the birth of their son, the one who would rescue us all, the prophesies of Anna and Simeon, the heartbreak of a nation and the Saviour King becoming a refugee.
