            <div class="label">3</div><div class="s1"><span class="heading">Crossing the Jordan</span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v1" data-usfm="JOS.3.1"><span class="label">1</span><span class="content">Early in the morning Joshua and all the Israelites set out from Shittim and went to the Jordan, where they camped before crossing over. </span></span><span class="verse v2" data-usfm="JOS.3.2"><span class="label">2</span><span class="content">After three days the officers went throughout the camp, </span></span><span class="verse v3" data-usfm="JOS.3.3"><span class="label">3</span><span class="content">giving orders to the people: &#8220;When you see the ark of the covenant of the </span><span class="nd"><span class="content">Lord</span></span><span class="content"> your God, and the Levitical priests carrying it, you are to move out from your positions and follow it. </span></span><span class="verse v4" data-usfm="JOS.3.4"><span class="label">4</span><span class="content">Then you will know which way to go, since you have never been this way before. But keep a distance of about two thousand cubits</span><span class="note f"><span class="label">#</span><span class="body"><span class="fr">3:4 </span><span class="ft">That is, about 3,000 feet or about 900 meters</span></span></span><span class="content"> between you and the ark; do not go near it.&#8221;</span></span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v4" data-usfm="JOS.3.4"></span><span class="verse v5" data-usfm="JOS.3.5"><span class="label">5</span><span class="content">Joshua told the people, &#8220;Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the </span><span class="nd"><span class="content">Lord</span></span><span class="content"> will do amazing things among you.&#8221;</span></span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v5" data-usfm="JOS.3.5"></span><span class="verse v6" data-usfm="JOS.3.6"><span class="label">6</span><span class="content">Joshua said to the priests, &#8220;Take up the ark of the covenant and pass on ahead of the people.&#8221; So they took it up and went ahead of them.</span></span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v6" data-usfm="JOS.3.6"></span><span class="verse v7" data-usfm="JOS.3.7"><span class="label">7</span><span class="content">And the </span><span class="nd"><span class="content">Lord</span></span><span class="content"> said to Joshua, &#8220;Today I will begin to exalt you in the eyes of all Israel, so they may know that I am with you as I was with Moses. </span></span><span class="verse v8" data-usfm="JOS.3.8"><span class="label">8</span><span class="content">Tell the priests who carry the ark of the covenant: &#8216;When you reach the edge of the Jordan&#8217;s waters, go and stand in the river.&#8217;&#8198;&#8221;</span></span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v8" data-usfm="JOS.3.8"></span><span class="verse v9" data-usfm="JOS.3.9"><span class="label">9</span><span class="content">Joshua said to the Israelites, &#8220;Come here and listen to the words of the </span><span class="nd"><span class="content">Lord</span></span><span class="content"> your God. </span></span><span class="verse v10" data-usfm="JOS.3.10"><span class="label">10</span><span class="content">This is how you will know that the living God is among you and that he will certainly drive out before you the Canaanites, Hittites, Hivites, Perizzites, Girgashites, Amorites and Jebusites. </span></span><span class="verse v11" data-usfm="JOS.3.11"><span class="label">11</span><span class="content">See, the ark of the covenant of the Lord of all the earth will go into the Jordan ahead of you. </span></span><span class="verse v12" data-usfm="JOS.3.12"><span class="label">12</span><span class="content">Now then, choose twelve men from the tribes of Israel, one from each tribe. </span></span><span class="verse v13" data-usfm="JOS.3.13"><span class="label">13</span><span class="content">And as soon as the priests who carry the ark of the </span><span class="nd"><span class="content">Lord</span></span><span class="content">&#8212;the Lord of all the earth&#8212;set foot in the Jordan, its waters flowing downstream will be cut off and stand up in a heap.&#8221;</span></span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v13" data-usfm="JOS.3.13"></span><span class="verse v14" data-usfm="JOS.3.14"><span class="label">14</span><span class="content">So when the people broke camp to cross the Jordan, the priests carrying the ark of the covenant went ahead of them. </span></span><span class="verse v15" data-usfm="JOS.3.15"><span class="label">15</span><span class="content">Now the Jordan is at flood stage all during harvest. Yet as soon as the priests who carried the ark reached the Jordan and their feet touched the water&#8217;s edge, </span></span><span class="verse v16" data-usfm="JOS.3.16"><span class="label">16</span><span class="content">the water from upstream stopped flowing. It piled up in a heap a great distance away, at a town called Adam in the vicinity of Zarethan, while the water flowing down to the Sea of the Arabah (that is, the Dead Sea) was completely cut off. So the people crossed over opposite Jericho. </span></span><span class="verse v17" data-usfm="JOS.3.17"><span class="label">17</span><span class="content">The priests who carried the ark of the covenant of the </span><span class="nd"><span class="content">Lord</span></span><span class="content"> stopped in the middle of the Jordan and stood on dry ground, while all Israel passed by until the whole nation had completed the crossing on dry ground.</span></span></div>

We are signs and symbols in Israel from the </span><span class="nd"><span class="content">Lord</span></span><span class="content"> Almighty, who dwells on Mount Zion.</span></span></div><div class="s1"><span class="heading">The Darkness Turns to Light</span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v18" data-usfm="ISA.8.18"></span><span class="verse v19" data-usfm="ISA.8.19"><span class="label">19</span><span class="content">When someone tells you to consult mediums and spiritists, who whisper and mutter, should not a people inquire of their God? Why consult the dead on behalf of the living? </span></span><span class="verse v20" data-usfm="ISA.8.20"><span class="label">20</span><span class="content">Consult God&#8217;s instruction and the testimony of warning. If anyone does not speak according to this word, they have no light of dawn. </span></span><span class="verse v21" data-usfm="ISA.8.21"><span class="label">21</span><span class="content">Distressed and hungry, they will roam through the land; when they are famished, they will become enraged and, looking upward, will curse their king and their God. </span></span><span class="verse v22" data-usfm="ISA.8.22"><span class="label">22</span><span class="content">Then they will look toward the earth and see only distress and darkness and fearful gloom, and they will be thrust into utter darkness.</span></span></div>

John was with them as their helper.</span></span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v5" data-usfm="ACT.13.5"></span><span class="verse v6" data-usfm="ACT.13.6"><span class="label">6</span><span class="content">They traveled through the whole island until they came to Paphos. There they met a Jewish sorcerer and false prophet named Bar-Jesus, </span></span><span class="verse v7" data-usfm="ACT.13.7"><span class="label">7</span><span class="content">who was an attendant of the proconsul, Sergius Paulus. The proconsul, an intelligent man, sent for Barnabas and Saul because he wanted to hear the word of God. </span></span><span class="verse v8" data-usfm="ACT.13.8"><span class="label">8</span><span class="content">But Elymas the sorcerer (for that is what his name means) opposed them and tried to turn the proconsul from the faith. </span></span><span class="verse v9" data-usfm="ACT.13.9"><span class="label">9</span><span class="content">Then Saul, who was also called Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, looked straight at Elymas and said, </span></span><span class="verse v10" data-usfm="ACT.13.10"><span class="label">10</span><span class="content">&#8220;You are a child of the devil and an enemy of everything that is right! You are full of all kinds of deceit and trickery. Will you never stop perverting the right ways of the Lord? </span></span><span class="verse v11" data-usfm="ACT.13.11"><span class="label">11</span><span class="content">Now the hand of the Lord is against you. You are going to be blind for a time, not even able to see the light of the sun.&#8221;</span></span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v11" data-usfm="ACT.13.11"><span class="content">Immediately mist and darkness came over him, and he groped about, seeking someone to lead him by the hand. </span></span><span class="verse v12" data-usfm="ACT.13.12"><span class="label">12</span><span class="content">When the proconsul saw what had happened, he believed, for he was amazed at the teaching about the Lord.</span></span></div><div class="s1"><span class="heading">In Pisidian Antioch</span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v12" data-usfm="ACT.13.12"></span><span class="verse v13" data-usfm="ACT.13.13"><span class="label">13</span><span class="content">From Paphos, Paul and his companions sailed to Perga in Pamphylia, where John left them to return to Jerusalem. </span></span><span class="verse v14" data-usfm="ACT.13.14"><span class="label">14</span><span class="content">From Perga they went on to Pisidian Antioch. God testified concerning him: &#8216;I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart; he will do everything I want him to do.&#8217;</span></span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v22" data-usfm="ACT.13.22"></span><span class="verse v23" data-usfm="ACT.13.23"><span class="label">23</span><span class="content">&#8220;From this man&#8217;s descendants God has brought to Israel the Savior Jesus, as he promised. </span></span><span class="verse v24" data-usfm="ACT.13.24"><span class="label">24</span><span class="content">Before the coming of Jesus, John preached repentance and baptism to all the people of Israel. </span></span><span class="verse v25" data-usfm="ACT.13.25"><span class="label">25</span><span class="content">As John was completing his work, he said: &#8216;Who do you suppose I am? I am not the one you are looking for. But there is one coming after me whose sandals I am not worthy to untie.&#8217;</span></span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v25" data-usfm="ACT.13.25"></span><span class="verse v26" data-usfm="ACT.13.26"><span class="label">26</span><span class="content">&#8220;Fellow children of Abraham and you God-fearing Gentiles, it is to us that this message of salvation has been sent. </span></span><span class="verse v27" data-usfm="ACT.13.27"><span class="label">27</span><span class="content">The people of Jerusalem and their rulers did not recognize Jesus, yet in condemning him they fulfilled the words of the prophets that are read every Sabbath. </span></span><span class="verse v28" data-usfm="ACT.13.28"><span class="label">28</span><span class="content">Though they found no proper ground for a death sentence, they asked Pilate to have him executed. </span></span><span class="verse v29" data-usfm="ACT.13.29"><span class="label">29</span><span class="content">When they had carried out all that was written about him, they took him down from the cross and laid him in a tomb. </span></span><span class="verse v30" data-usfm="ACT.13.30"><span class="label">30</span><span class="content">But God raised him from the dead, </span></span><span class="verse v31" data-usfm="ACT.13.31"><span class="label">31</span><span class="content">and for many days he was seen by those who had traveled with him from Galilee to Jerusalem.
