I Am

DAY 16 OF 28

What do you think the disciples thought when they heard Jesus say, "Surely I am with you always?" Yes, they had experienced miracles of healing — supernatural events like a stormy sea being calmed and then Jesus' actual coming back to life — but they had only ever experienced Jesus being physically with them as a human. Did they believe him when he said that they would be with him always, even after he left Earth?

If it was hard for them to grasp, it would only make sense that it's hard for us to believe that a God we can't physically see is with us now and always. For the disciples, there was proof of the unseen, and evidence of the Holy Spirit's work every time Jesus revealed his power to them. More and more people who had never met Jesus began to believe. People were healed, miracles happened, and the world was never the same. Not to mention, the good news of Jesus is still spreading and reaching people today.

When we think about it, there's proof of the unseen in everyday life. We believe there is wind when we see branches moving and bending. We believe there is sound when we hear it, even though there is nothing physical to see or touch.

If believing doesn't come easy, don't worry. The gift of faith allows us to believe Jesus at his word.

About this Plan

I Am

When Jesus was on earth, there were a few times when he told his followers exactly who he was. For the next four weeks, we'll explore some of these stories to find out how Jesus described himself to others. We'll take a look at what changes when we hear Jesus tell us he is love, he is truth, he is always with us, and how he is our Savior.
