Guard Your Heart

"Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life."

What is your most treasured possession? Is it your phone? Do you throw your phone around, or are you careful with it and make sure you don’t drop it? Is there a phone case on your phone to give you extra protection? If you answered yes, that makes sense because when something is valuable, you go to extra measures to keep it safe and away from harm.

The same principle goes with your body, and one of the most precious parts of your body is your heart. As a teenager, your heart can be vulnerable and easily broken. Just like we protect our phone to ensure it doesn’t get broken, we need to do the same with our hearts. Be mindful of your heart and take measures to protect it. Watch how your friends respond to situations and decide early on if they are trustworthy or if they are quick to gossip about others and spread rumors. If they are quick in those situations, you may not want to trust them fully with your loyalty. Our hearts are easily broken; protect them always.

Father,

Give me the gift of discernment, and help me not to rush so quickly into a relationship before I can see the person’s character. I want to believe everyone, but I know in my heart that not everyone is worthy of my trust. Help me to learn who I can trust my heart with and who I need to keep my guard up.
