The Secret of Prayer

DAY 14 OF 14

Slaying the Giant of Fear

Fear is one of the greatest hindrances to receiving God’s promises. It whispers doubt, magnifies obstacles, and keeps us stuck in hesitation. When God called Joshua to lead Israel into the Promised Land, He told him repeatedly to “Be strong and courageous” (Joshua 1:6,9). Why? Because God knew that fear could paralyze Joshua and keep him from stepping into his calling. Courage is a requirement for taking hold of what God had already given.

Throughout Scripture, we see that boldness and faith go hand in hand. David faced Goliath with confidence, not because of his own strength, but because he knew “the battle belongs to the Lord” (1 Samuel 17:47). Moses stood before Pharaoh, not because he felt qualified, but because he trusted in God’s power to deliver. Joshua had to conquer fear before he could conquer the land. In every case, faith required action—bold steps of obedience in the face of fear.

Fear is one of the enemy’s most effective weapons to keep us from walking in God’s best. It causes us to shrink back when we should step forward. But God has given us His Spirit—not a spirit of fear, but of “power, love, and a sound mind” (2 Timothy 1:7). This means that as believers, we are equipped with everything we need to stand firm and move forward in faith. When we recognize that fear is not from God, we can reject it and walk in the confidence that He supplies.

What has fear been keeping you from? A new opportunity? A step of obedience? A promise from God? Bold faith is required to take hold of what God has for you. Don’t let fear rob you of your inheritance. Choose to step forward today, knowing that God is with you, fighting on your behalf!
