Biblical Snapshots of Anxiety — Peter and Doubt
Peter’s story reminds us how quickly doubt can stir anxious feelings. When Jesus called him to step out of the boat, Peter walked on the water with confidence. But the moment he shifted his focus to the wind and waves, fear rose, doubt crept in, and he began to sink.
We often experience the same struggle. A step of faith can suddenly feel shaky when circumstances change. The “what ifs” start swirling: What if I fail? What if God doesn’t come through? Anxiety feeds on doubt, magnifying the storm while minimizing the presence of the One who called us.
But notice what happened next. Jesus did not let Peter sink. He reached out His hand immediately and lifted him up. Even in doubt, Peter was not abandoned. The same is true for us. When doubt unsettles our hearts and anxious thoughts rise, Jesus meets us with compassion, offering His hand and His peace.
Prayer:
Lord, when doubt causes me to lose focus, remind me that You are near. Thank You for reaching out even when my faith wavers. Strengthen my trust in You so that I can walk forward in confidence and peace.
Daily Challenge:
Think of one situation where doubt has been stirring anxious feelings. Speak honestly to God about it, then pray: “Lord, save me. Help me keep my eyes on You instead of the storm.”
