Peace in the Storm

DAY 23 OF 30

Guard Your Heart

This proverb makes it clear — your heart is the control center of your life. It’s not just talking about emotions; it’s talking about the core of who you are — your thoughts, your values, your desires, your faith. Whatever fills your heart will eventually spill out into your words, actions, and choices.

That’s why Solomon says “above all else.” In other words, this isn’t optional. Guarding your heart is priority number one. Think of your heart like a gate — what you allow in will determine what comes out. If you let bitterness, fear, or lies take root, your life will reflect that. But if you fill your heart with God’s Word, His truth, and His presence, your life will produce fruit that honors Him.

The enemy would love to contaminate your heart because he knows your life flows from it. But God calls you to guard it — not by building walls of isolation, but by setting boundaries, filtering influences, and surrendering your heart daily to Him.

Your heart is the wellspring of your life. Whatever fills it will overflow into your words, actions, and relationships. Guarding your heart isn’t about shutting people out—it’s about setting holy boundaries to keep your spirit healthy.

I’ve learned that when I don’t guard my heart, bitterness and discouragement leak into everything I do. When I went through previous seasons, God told me specifically, "Lydia... guard your heart, but don't build walls." To build a wall would not anything, good or bad, the ability to come in, but when one guards it defends and protects without stopping the good to enter. When I set boundaries and protect what God gave me, I’m stronger and more at peace. Don't let your offense or discouragement make you build a wall and block out even the good God wants you to receive.

Be intentional about what you let into your heart — conversations, music, media, relationships. Guarding your heart is not about fear, but about wisdom and protection. Ask: “What’s draining me right now that I need to guard against?” Take one small step today to protect your peace. Remember: your heart is the wellspring of your life — keep it pure, and your life will follow.
