Presence revealed: Abiding in Christ

The incarnation shows us God with us, but Jesus goes further. He invites us not just to know about His presence but to remain in it. In John 15, Jesus uses the image of a vine and branches. The branch has no life on its own. It flourishes only when connected to the vine. This is the picture of abiding.

Abiding is not about occasional visits with God but daily dwelling in His love. It is a posture of dependence. Many of us measure our lives by what we accomplish, but Jesus reminds us that true fruitfulness flows not from striving but from staying near Him. Apart from Him, we can do nothing.

This is freeing. Our worth isn’t tied to output or performance but to presence. Fruit – love, joy, peace, patience – is evidence of abiding. When we try to force these on our own, we grow weary. But when we remain in Christ, His life flows naturally through us.

Jesus promises that abiding brings joy – not shallow happiness but deep joy rooted in His love. Even in seasons of chaos or hardship, His presence anchors us. True joy is not the absence of problems but the assurance that Christ remains with us.

Reflection:
What does abiding in Christ look like in my daily routines? Where might I be trying to produce fruit apart from His presence?

Prayer:
Jesus, help me to abide in you. Teach me to dwell in your love, trust your presence, and let your life flow through mine in every situation today. Amen
