Presence incarnate: God moves in

Having reflected on our craving for connection, we now turn to look at how we were created to live in God’s presence.

We live in a hyper-connected world, yet so many of us feel deeply alone. Surrounded by texts, scrolling feeds, and endless updates, we can still feel unseen, unheard, and unknown. Our longing is not for more information but for presence – someone who is truly with us. Into this ache, John declares a breathtaking truth: “The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us.”

This is the heart of the incarnation. God doesn’t stay distant or abstract. He doesn’t just send words, prophets, or signs. He comes Himself. In Jesus, God “moved into the neighbourhood” (John 1:14 MSG). He is fully God and fully human, walking among us, eating meals, weeping with friends, and embodying the love of the Father in flesh and blood.

Presence is not an idea – it is personal. In Jesus, grace and truth meet. He welcomes sinners, heals the broken, and offers hope to the weary. His presence is not about condemnation but restoration. God’s answer to our loneliness is Himself.

The incarnation means you are not forgotten or unseen. God has drawn near. His presence is not only with you in church or moments of worship but also in the everyday spaces of your life – your kitchen table, workplace, and even in moments of grief. The Word became flesh and still comes near today.

Reflection:
Where do I most feel disconnected from God’s presence? How can I invite Jesus to dwell more fully in my life today?

Prayer:
Lord Jesus, thank you for coming near to me. Help me recognise your presence in my daily life, to dwell in your grace and to see you move into the ordinary moments of my day. Amen.
