The Rock
I live in Dubai, where there is a large man-made island off the coast called The Palm. As the name would suggest, it is shaped like a palm tree, with rows of high-rise apartments on its trunk and elegant villas lining its branches. The problem is that developers used a lot of sand to erect the island. After a while some of the villas fell into sinkholes left by settling sand. It’s not wise to build on sand. Jesus used this truth to tell a parable in the Sermon on the Mount.
The difference between the two men in the parable is in the doing. Both hear Jesus’ words but only one does them. If we want to be wise women who don’t fall into the sinkholes of this life, we will not only hear but we will obey Jesus’ words that are given to us in the Scriptures. Those words will have authority over our lives.
Sister, treasure your Bible! You can draw from it for every temporal or spiritual need. God cannot lie, because He is infinitely truthful. You can submit to His authority in your life without fear. He will never mislead you. Indeed, He will never fail you. The Christian cannot live without the authoritative Word of God. Don’t you want to know this God who sets your feet on the rock?

As women in the modern world we often juggle the responsibilities of work and school and home. Sometimes life is overwhelming and sometimes it is just mundane. But the God who sent His Son into the world to rescue sinners gives meaning to both the overwhelming and the mundane. He created us to enjoy knowing Him. In knowing God through the Scriptures we find meaning and joy!
