El Elyon: The Most High God

Elyon means the ‘Highest’ or ‘Exalted One’. El Elyon means the God who is the Most High. Jesus is called the Son of the Most High.

El Elyon speaks of the supremacy of God. He is above all.

Ps 97:9 For You, Lord, are most high above all the earth, You are exalted far above all gods.

This exalted position of El Elyon was the one which Lucifer wanted, when in his pride he declared, “I will be like the Most High”(Isaiah 14:14). But all pride must bend before the Most High God.

When King Nebuchadnezzar’s heart was lifted up in pride over his achievements, El Elyon brought him low and a voice from heaven pronounced judgement on Nebuchadnezzar and said, “..until you know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomever He chooses.”

Dan 4:34 ..I, Nebuchadnezzar, lifted my eyes to heaven, and my understanding returned to me, and I blessed the Most High and praised and honoured Him who lives forever.

God is able to humble anybody because He rules over all. He actively rules in the kingdoms of the earth and lifts one and puts down another.

Who is most high in your life? Is it you? Or is it God?

What is most high in your heart? Have earthly pleasures blocked your vision of God?

Or is the Most High God really most high in your life ?

♥ Response: Lord, forgive me all the hidden pride inside me. You alone know my heart. I bend my heart before You. You are the Most High God and there is no one like You.

The name of Jesus is highly exalted and is above every other name that at the name of Jesus, every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. Phil 2:9-11

Pray that you would be able to love God with all your heart, mind and strength

Ask for God’s grace to be obedient to Him always. Pray that you would delight to do His will.

Ask Him one thing He wants you to do now. And do it.
