Heart for the HouseExemplo
A Generational House
Bobbie Houston
The generation factor is interesting. One minute you are young and vibrant with the world before you, and the next minute, you are somehow older. You are looking at a new generation who is young and vibrant with the world before them. Anyone who has more than four decades up their sleeve knows exactly what I’m talking about.
Generational separation happens, but I am not convinced that this is how God intended life to be. If we are not mindful and careful, society finds itself with unhealthy divides that have various age groups seldom mixing, seldom socializing, seldom truly appreciating one another, and seldom working together for the good of others.
If we are not careful, Church life can also fall into the same trap, with youth only engaging with youth and adults only engaging with adults.
In Mark 2:22, the Bible speaks of wineskins. In essence, it’s saying that “new wine” (new life, new anointing, new opportunity, new generations) needs a new wineskin. Old ways of doing things may have served the previous generation well, but new generations often require new ways. Truth and eternal principles never change, but methods must often be rethought and re-envisioned.
God is completely generational. The generations matter to Him. He has designed life to be long and blessed with stories and wisdom, lessons and mistakes, testimony and legacy being passed down through the generations so that each generation can strengthen the next. Psalm 145 speaks of generations pouring forth the fame of His great name. In all honesty, if we could all get this right, the world would be a better place.
