Priorities for a fulfilled life
What are the priorities in your life?
I can imagine that you're taking a few moments right now to think about it. Perhaps some of your answers might be "God, my family, my involvement in the church, time for me..."?
That sounds good…very good even! But are you truly living out your priorities that way? Is it working for you? Or are you trying to pack so much into your 1,440-minute day that you're running out of time for your priorities? When this happens, the result is inevitable: stress and dissatisfaction.
If you don't know your priorities and stick to them, you'll find that the joy in your life collapses very quickly.
To live more consciously and happily, you need very clear priorities. "'For which of you, intending to build a tower, does not sit down first and count the cost, whether he has enough to finish it'"? (Luke 14:28, NKJV)
Time is a gift from God. One thousand four hundred forty minutes in a day. 10,080 in a week. Wow, that's quite a lot when we think about it! And yet, it often seems too little to "get it all done." That's why it's so valuable for us to sit down periodically and think, "What can I actually do? What can I manage? Have I let some things into my life that are taking time away from my priorities, the ones that bring meaning and fulfillment to my life?"
Yes, we need this planning—it's important for our priorities and ultimately good for us! Our time is precious, and knowing what's right for us will give us the joy that matters.
Maybe this thought overwhelms you. Gratefully, though, it doesn't have to! You don't have to realign your priorities and time alone, in your own strength—God wants to do it through you! He wants to help you find a fulfilling life that's both satisfying for you and life-giving to others.
The Bible gives us a wonderful prayer as we seek God about our priorities. Would you like to pray it with me today? "Cause me to hear Your lovingkindness in the morning, for in You do I trust; cause me to know the way in which I should walk, for I lift up my soul to You." (Psalm 143:8, NKJV)
Amen!
You are a miracle!
