LET YOURSELF BE INTERRUPTED
“What is happening? Am I in the wrong movie?” Simon of Cyrene asks himself. All he wants is to go home and enjoy the evening after a day in his fields. On his way home, he is forced to carry the cross of this beaten and maltreated guy. What is all of this?
Do you recognise such unwanted interruptions in your everyday life? One week ago, writing this text was on my to-do list. On Monday morning, all the children are usually in school and I have time. But precisely on this day one child was sick and I did not get around to writing. Instead I was in the children’s room equipped with tea and thermometer and I took care of our son.
Such unforeseen interruptions in my everyday life are not my best friend. I like planning my day and making sure everything goes as it should. Moreover, I do not even have any time for interruptions. Is this also true for you?
Simon of Cyrene was forced to let himself be interrupted. This interruption on the way home changed his life fundamentally. By carrying the cross, he came really close to Jesus and Simon even gets to help Jesus.
Sometimes it is precisely through these unplanned and unforeseen things in your everyday life that you encounter God or that you can be a blessing to others.
ACTION STEP:
Allow interruptions in your life today! Be open for unplanned things: a coffee with your neighbor, a game with the children, a conversation at the bus stop… Be ready to see what God has in store for you and those close to you.

About this Plan

For many people Easter is merely a nice spring festival. However, the origin of Easter is powerful and relevant for all people. During this time, we celebrate that Jesus died and resurrected for us. By doing this, something incredible happened. In this reading plan we want to engage ourselves with the last 24 hours in the life of Jesus. Jesus’ death on the cross is not the end, but the beginning of something totally new. For each one of us. – “Because I live, you also will live.” John 14:19
