DAY 5 OF 15

College is so great.  You learn so many things!  For example, when I was in college I figured out exactly how far I could drive my car after my “gas light” came on.  I worked a full 36 hours every week at my job, but I didn’t get paid very well, so between paying for my dorm, food, and gas I learned some “creative money management” techniques.  Finding ways to preserve gas was fun…coast down hills, don’t accelerate too fast, and you’ll be out of gas in 50 miles once that pesky gas light comes on.  I can recall more than one time when I cut it a lot closer than I should have, barely making it to the gas station in time to fill up.

We were created to be fueled by something. If God made us and knows us like we know he does, then He created us to require a certain power source too. Our pain, discouragement and frustration come when we try to operate by any power source other than the one God has required for us. We weren’t created to run on the approval of others, or pure human effort. You and I were created to be fueled by the Holy Spirit; any other source will just lead us to feel like we are running out of gas.

What are some of the things that fuel you?
What things motivate you in your life?
What are the things that make you resilient and strong?
What do you run to when things get desperate?

I would be willing to bet that your list isn’t different than most everyone else; you’re not alone. There are many factors that fuel us but only one truly sustains us. Ask God to expose those things that fuel you and replace those motivations with more of God’s Spirit.
