New Hope Oahu - Scripture Songs 11 Day DevotionalSample
"A New Song"
SCRIPTURE:
Psalm 40:1-5 (NLT)
I waited patiently for the Lord to help me, and he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the pit of despair, out of the mud and the mire. He set my feet on solid ground and steadied me as I walked along. He has given me a new song to sing, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see what he has done and be amazed. They will put their trust in the Lord. Oh, the joys of those who trust the Lord, who have no confidence in the proud or in those who worship idols. O Lord my God, you have performed many wonders for us. Your plans for us are too numerous to list. You have no equal. If I tried to recite all your wonderful deeds, I would never come to the end of them.
OBSERVATION:
David waited patiently. In times of need and distress this is sometimes the most difficult thing to do; developing the patience muscle. David learned it well in all things. He had an active patience, one that continues in life but is active in seeking the Lord and crying out, and having full expectation that the Lord will respond because He is a good Father and loves us.
APPLICATION:
It amazes me that in these scriptures, David waited patiently, cried out to God, walked, sung a new song, and remembered through recitation all of the goodness and faithfulness of God. Everything else in this scripture is God’s response and follow-through to His child. God turned, heard, lifted, set, steadied, gave a new song, performed and had plans. In fact, everything that David did was because God supplied it. David walked because God lifted and steadied him. All of this reminds me of one simple truth; I, like David, need to do what only I can do, and God will do what only He can do!
PRAYER:
Thank You Jesus for Your Faithfulness and Goodness. Thank You for being the only One that we can put our trust and hope and life in. Remind me of all that You have done and are doing, and continue to place Your new song on my lips and help me to recite all of Your wondrous deeds. I love You, in Jesus' name, Amen.
