GO2020 | ENGAGE: June Week 3 - ABIDESample
June 17—Be Strong in the Lord
Read
Ephesians 6:10-13
Reflect
In today’s Scripture passage, the apostle Paul is summing up his argument regarding the importance of being prepared for spiritual battle. He admonishes God’s people to be strong in the Lord. Without the Lord we are doomed to fail against the devil’s schemes. We are told to put on the full armor of God in order to stand against the powers of darkness. We’ll look at that in more depth tomorrow. Perhaps one of the key points we need to discover today and remember every day is that our battle is not against flesh and blood. What does that mean? Other people are not our enemy. There is an invisible network of “rulers,” “authorities,” “cosmic powers,” and “spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places” (ESV) that war against God and against God’s people. Against that enemy we are helpless without the armor of God.
Engage
Read today’s Scripture passage. Say or write it out in your own words, considering the following questions:
· What does it say about God?
· What does it say about us?
· Is there a promise to trust?
· Is there a command to obey?
· How will I apply this Scripture to my life?
· Who will I show that I care by sharing this truth?
Memorize
Now read this week’s memory verse, 1 Peter 5:8. Spend a few minutes working to memorize it.

About this Plan
We are in a battle. The war has already been won. Jesus has totally and overwhelmingly won the war! However, we are in what we could call the “mopping-up” stage. We are in between two important events: the time between Christ’s definitive victory on the cross and his triumphant return to earth. In this in-between stage we are called to make disciples who in turn make disciples.
