A NEW IDENTITY

So we are Christ’s Ambassadors... (2 Cor. 5:20a)

To be an ambassador for Christ is no light matter. Spend some time reading the New Testament and the cost to be a follower of Christ and one realizes that there can be no half-heartedness here. The sheer thrill of knowing that you can trade your old life in for a new life in Christ defies description. But then we must live up to this new identity in every way possible. People pay inordinate amounts of money to wear an accessory with a recognized name on it. How much more, then, do we do to give our life to Him, to wear His name, and to represent Him in all things? You cannot do this on your own. Part of your new identity is to be filled with the Holy Spirit who empowers you to walk in the footsteps of the Master. If it were not for Holy Spirit, we would have a mission impossible before us. He is the One that transitions you from stale ways of thinking to living in the light. You emerge from downward spiral patterns to upward climbs, taking you ever higher, nearer and closer to Him. Your new identity is here. You only need sign up for it.

Your starting point will always have a bearing on your end result. It is vitally important that you see yourself the way God sees you. How is that, you may ask? He loves you. You are top of His mind. You are the apple of His eye. You are His delight. He loves you enough to have died for you! If your starting point is that you can never disappoint God, you can never lessen His love, never persuade Him to change His mind about you, and you never need fear His rejection of you. If this strong foundation of knowing His love for you is your starting point, you must know - and with confidence - that your life can change. It must change. Because of this love, you will make righteous choices, you will voice yourself differently, your confidence will rise to new heights, and you will walk into a room, confidently but humbly knowing that you are a child of the King. Now this is the power of identity in Christ.
