DAY 11 OF 11

NOT GOING BACK

In 2 Corinthians 6 we see Paul speaking with so much love and compassion to the church at Corinth. In verses 11-13 he tells them that they were living small lives and that they did not have to, that he longed for them to step into a bigger life. A life more full and spacious.

The chorus to ‘Not Going Back’ says it beautifully: ‘I’m so done with chasing the small dreams. I’m choosing you.’

When we choose Jesus, we are choosing life. We are leaving the dead and taking hold of the living. We are refusing the old and claiming the new. We are letting go of the comfort of our small wants, and pushing for the big asks.

I’m reminded of when Jesus was with the disciples on a hill, followed by thousands of men, women, and children. Jesus asks Philip, “How are we going to buy bread to feed everyone?” and Philip tells Jesus that even if they were to work a few months, they still wouldn’t have enough to feed everyone. But Jesus already had a plan. He was asking Philip to test him. Feeding everyone would be impossible without Jesus. But Jesus showed us it would be impossible without people.

As we see in this story, even the food Jesus fed the people with belonged to someone else. If the disciples could do it on their own, there would be no miracle. If it’s not an impossible task, it’s not a big enough ask. As long as we have enough resources to fulfill our dreams and wants, we are still living small.

Jesus wants us to move into a spacious life. Verse 11 says that we are not ‘fenced in.’ It’s up to us to leave the old way of thinking and doing things, leave the safety of what we know, and choose the wide open life God has created us to live.

Application:

Do an act of kindness that you can’t achieve without the help of someone else.

Prayer:

God, I’m done living a small life. I’m done living beneath my intention. I choose to step into the new. To step into a life wide open and spacious. I pray you go with me into this new chapter as we close the old one behind us. Amen.
