Put the Goals and interests of others above my own
Paul encourages us to put the interests of others above our own in a spirit of humility. Being humble is not being a doormat. It is thinking rightly about our position, not never thinking about ourselves. It is not a position of weakness but of meekness. Jesus said the meek shall inherit the earth!
Humility is something we can choose. Peter wrote to “humble yourselves.” So, it is a state that is possible for us to choose. We can choose to think rightly about ourselves. Thinking correctly about our state of being allows us to think about the needs of others before we think about our own.
Peter gives us the key in the last part of verse 7. We can do this because we know that Jesus cares about us. He cares about what we need. He cares about our joys and our sorrows. He cares about our desires and wishes. But ultimately, He cares about us becoming more like Himself!
Are you willing to humble yourself before the Lord? It’s the only way to really begin to put the needs of others before our own.
