The Heart Attitudes: Part 2Sample
Philippians 2:3-4
“Do nothing out of rivalry or conceit, but in humility consider others as more important than yourselves. Everyone should look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.”
Proverbs 13:12
“Delayed hope makes the heart sick, but fulfilled desire is a tree of life.”
Heart Attitude #1
Put the Goals and interests of others above my own
We need to remember that Paul said to not only look out for our own interests. Our interests are important. We need to make sure that we are taking care of our own needs and thus not becoming a burden on others.
Our desires are important as well. Proverbs calls fulfilled desire a tree of life. It brings joy to our hearts. Ambition and pursuing goals in life is not sinful in and of itself. The Lord has made you just the way you are. He knows what is in your heart before you even do. Our desires can be good and godly when we surrender them to Him.
Putting the goals and interests of others above my own does not mean I do not pursue my own interests. It means that I will not pursue them in a way that harms others.
What goals, passions, or pursuits do you need to surrender to Jesus today?
