The Heart Attitudes: Part 2Sample
Philippians 2:3-4
“Do nothing out of rivalry or conceit, but in humility consider others as more important than yourselves. Everyone should look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.”
1 John 3:16
“This is how we have come to know love: He laid down His life for us. We should also lay down our lives for our brothers.”
Heart Attitude #1
Put the Goals and interests of others above my own
How do we put this attitude into practice? What does it look like to consider others as more important than ourselves?
Bullock states it this way, “I pursue my goals in line with the good of God, the good of my family, the good of the groups that I am a part of, the good of my church—and even the good of other people on the freeway.”
Putting the goals and interests of others above my own will always cost us something. It may be time. It may be money. It may just mean my own way of doing something. It is a choice we make to give something up so that others may succeed or have preference. But it is also a choice that brings with it tremendous benefits.
This weekend make a concerted effort to put the goals and interests of others above your own at least on one occasion. Then share how that made you feel with someone close to you. As you begin to practice this attitude regularly, you will notice a deeper joy in your life. It will really be worth it in the end!
