SWHW Bible Reading Plan: October 2021

DAY 15 OF 21

Top Takeaway from Sarah Martin:

All of the Old Testament points to Jesus, the coming Messiah. When we know this already, as we go into harder, more allusive books of the Bible, we can read with a sense of excitement and expectation.

Expectation.

That’s the word that came to mind in our Scripture for today, especially while reading Zechariah 6.

“It is he who shall build the temple of the Lord and shall bear royal honor, and shall sit and rule on his throne…” Zechariah 6:13

This verse is talking about Jesus! It’s talking about the returning of our King of Kings to take His rightful seat at the throne of the ultimate temple in Jerusalem!  I would love to pair Revelation with the description of the temple in Zechariah. Let’s worship the One who will come back and occupy this temple we read about:

“Then I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse! The one sitting on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness, he judges and makes war. His eyes are like a flame of fire, and on his head are many diadems, and he has a name written that no one knows but himself. He is clothed in a robe dipped in blood, and the name by which he is called is The Word of God.” Revelation 19:11-13

Expectation and excitement are what I feel today. Yes. And so it makes all the hard, swirly dreams, visions, and prophecies in the Old Testament worth taking the time to investigate and bounce off the knowledge that the whole book points to the One coming on a white horse in power called Faithful and True.

Father, thank You for Your Word that is our compass pointing to the true north, Jesus! Will You stir in us a desire to investigate Your word more deeply? Holy Spirit, help us go deeper in understanding. Amen!

About this Plan

SWHW Bible Reading Plan: October 2021

With God's Word as the foundation, each devotional is written by women in the trenches of faith, family and work, aiming to live for the glory of God and the good of others. There are enough devotions included for a typical 5-day work schedule. We recommend plugging into your local church for the remaining two days of each week.
