Prayers & Promises for First RespondersSample
Identity
Often society pressures us to define ourselves based on our profession or social status. But when we fail, these role-based identities are fractured. Defining one’s identity based on external measures is temporary and extremely fragile. We must establish our identity from our internal beliefs and our relationship with God, not our role in this world. This approach requires us to abandon some negative belief patterns that limit us to the ceiling this world will place us under. The world may try to define you based on limited and temporary situations. One encounter with God will change your identity from a sinner to redeemed. Just like God changed Jacob’s name to Israel, he will be the source of your true identity. If he can change Saul to Paul on the road to Damascus, he can change the identity of any of us from a roughneck sinner to a man or woman after his own heart.
Heavenly Father, never let me forget my identity is in you and the perfect sacrifice of your Son. In my moments of confusion, remind me you call me your own. Amen.
What direction and clarity does having your identity in Christ provide?
