SWHW Bible Reading Plan: December 2021

DAY 10 OF 23

Top Takeaway from Liz Patton:

The Bible is full of examples of man’s disobedience, stubbornness, and unrepentance.  But as I read about these end times in Revelation, it’s hard for me to understand how an unbeliever, facing all of that torment, wouldn’t want to run to God in repentance and faith!  But instead of repenting, John prophecies that unbelievers will continue to worship idols.  And they will continue to commit crimes that we currently see all over the news today:

“The rest of mankind that were not killed by these plagues still did not repent of the work of their hands; they did not stop worshiping demons, and idols of gold, silver, bronze, stone and wood--idols that cannot see or hear or walk.  Nor did they repent of their murders, their magic arts, their sexual immorality or their thefts.”  Revelation 9:20-21

It’s sad to me that even when God demonstrates His amazing power, most people will refuse to repent and turn from their sin.  They will refuse to submit to the very One who created them, and instead, they will worship idols, things they created themselves.

But as sad as this makes me for them, it makes me even more ridiculously grateful that we get to run to God in repentance!  We get to turn away from lesser things and turn to the Lord God Almighty, the One who was and is and is to come.

And it gives me an urgency to share this with others so that they don’t have to face all of the torment we read about in Revelation.  Instead, they can face Jesus!  God sent His One and only Son to die for our sins so that we wouldn’t have to face this horrible judgment.  Let’s run to Him today!

Dear God, reading these revelations makes us so thankful for Your Son, Jesus, who willingly died for us so that we won’t have to face this torment we read about in Your Word.  Today we turn from our sin, and we turn to You with repentant hearts.  Give us the courage and boldness to share this good news with those around us so that they can spend eternity with You.  We love You!  Amen.

About this Plan

SWHW Bible Reading Plan: December 2021

Using God's Word as the foundation for our conversation, every devotional is written by women in the trenches of faith, family, and work, aiming to live for the glory of God and the good of others. There are enough devotions included for a typical five-day work schedule. We recommend plugging into your local church for the remaining two days of each week.
