Exodus: A Group Study

DAY 9 OF 77

What is this passage saying?

After being placed in the Nile by his mother, Moses is rescued by Pharaoh’s daughter and adopted into the royal household. Moses’ mother is selected to nurse and raise him.

What is this passage teaching?

As Moses is born in the middle of harsh slavery and horrific infanticide, his mother chooses to trust God and places him in a basket in the Nile. Providentially, Moses is found by Pharaoh’s daughter, adopted into the royal family, and then nursed and raised by his mother. From the very beginning, God is orchestrating each step of Moses’ life, preparing him to lead his people out of slavery and into the Promised Land.

How do I respond?

Paul tells us in Ephesians 1:4-5 that before the foundation of the world was laid, God chose to adopt you as His son or daughter. Even before the universe existed, God had every one of your days planned (Psalm 139:16). Like Moses, there is not one facet of your life God has not planned or accomplished. Where you were born, the family you grew up with, your experiences in life – none of these are by accident. From the heights of His immeasurable wisdom and in the depth of His incredible love, God has intricately woven your life together for such as time as this (Esther 4:14). Take some time today to think of all the moments God protected and preserved you despite the darkness and turmoil around you. Thank God for his providence and pray that He would use your story to show and share The Gospel with the people around you.
