Becoming Like Jesus: Scripture Memorization

DAY 10 OF 35

Chosen by God

In our darkest hour, Christ chooses us. Do you feel the significance of that? He calls us, loves us, and meets us right where we are. He calls us chosen, beloved, and His own special possession.

Pray...

Father, thank you for choosing me. Even when I was dead in my sin and lost in the darkness, you provided a light at the end of the tunnel and gave me new life. Help me become more like you and reflect who you are to others. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Read…

16 You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you. John 15:16 NIV

Consider…

As we read in John 15:16, Christ has chosen and appointed us to bear fruit, which means to have the characteristics of His Spirit and share them with the world. We know that the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23).

Imagine what our families, schools, communities, and circle of friends would look like if we loved them like Jesus loves us. What would your conversations with someone who hurt you look like if we carried ourselves with gentleness and self-control? Christ calls us to make a difference and to stand out in our crazy world.

Practice…

But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy. 1 Peter 2:9-10 NIV

After you write out your verses today, take a couple laps around your bedroom, or backyard, or wherever you are meeting with Jesus. Walk and talk—say the verses out loud. The movement may help your memory.

Listen...

Set a timer for five minutes.

Create space in your mind and heart to hear from God.

Ask Him to speak to you.

Continue to focus and refocus on what God has chosen and called you to do. Feel the weight of being chosen by the Creator of the universe. And live like you have been hand-picked for something special today, because you have!

About this Plan

Becoming Like Jesus: Scripture Memorization

In part 4 of Becoming Like Jesus, we are going to explore what it looks like and why it matters to internalize truth. We are going to let God’s Word do what it’s meant to: transform us from the inside out. And there’s no better place to start than with the core who we are, letting His truth shape our identity.
