Parents and Kids Daily Devotional "This Is Living"

DAY 13 OF 30

The pandemic “forced” students to learn from home. There was a time when I was so upset with my daughter because she got a bad score on a test. I started comparing her score with her friends’. She tried to defend herself by telling me that the test was hard and there wasn’t enough time to finish it. What followed struck a chord in my heart. She said, “My friend got a good grade because her mom helped her during the exam. I could hear her mom’s voice telling her the answers during the exam”.

I was shocked upon hearing my daughter’s explanation and immediately lowered my tone. I told her that I was still upset about her getting a bad score, but I was grateful that she had earned it by her own effort. She did not cheat or get help from somebody else.

Sometimes, we don’t want to disappoint our parents, friends, teachers, or other people. We don’t want them to uncover our imperfections, weaknesses or mistakes that we make, so we try to cover them up by telling lies. Lying may solve our problems at that time, but if we don’t immediately stop, we will be tempted to do it again and again, more and more, and without realizing it. We will get used to it; live a fake life without feeling guilty and over time, it will become a horrible lifestyle.

We can never use our own strength to stop a bad habit. We need ‘super power’ that enables us to do so. We need to pray and ask the Holy Spirit every day to check and purify our life and to rebuke our wrong doings. Psalm 139:23-24 says, “Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”

Being true and honest may be painful at that moment, and of course we have to bear the consequences. But we are not alone. We have the Holy Spirit as our true friend who helps us conquer our weakness. We must admit our sins, and once we do that, we will have peace and will be able to regain people’s trust. And most importantly, if we confess our sins and repent, God is faithful and will always forgive our sin.

Devotion for Parents
Have you ever told a lie to your kids? If yes, humble yourself and be honest with them. You are a role model for your own child. They can see your honest acts and they will imitate you. What kind of character do you want to instill in your children? It begins with you!

Devotion for Kids
Is there any lie that you keep as a secret? Be brave and confess it to God, your parents or friends. God will forgive your sin. Your parents or friends may be upset when you tell the truth, but they will appreciate your honesty!

Family Devotion Time
Play “truth or dare” during your family gathering.

Be open and honest with each other.

It will be such a relief, not to mention a fun activity to do with your family.

About this Plan

Parents and Kids Daily Devotional "This Is Living"

After we accept Jesus as God and Savior, our lives will change and our character will be renewed to become more and more like Him every day. What kind of life should followers of Christ have? What values do we need to hold? During this month we will invite the children to learn about this and teach them the values of truth that they should have in their lives.
