7 Biblical Principles on Parenting

DAY 4 OF 10

BIBLICAL PARENTING PRINCIPLE # 1: Care for Them

As parents, you are called to provide primary care for your children. We are to create an environment that fosters their health and growth. When a child is first born, this care and support are obviously at its height from a survival standpoint to feed and nurture them. However, the greater responsibility is in the nurturing of their soul. Thankfully God gives us the church community to support us as we care for our children, but ultimately we must fully own the responsibility for the well-being of our child’s mind, body, and spirit.

An Extension of Heaven

Caring for your child is the first way that we, as parents, get to introduce our children to the love of God. Long before you can tell them they have a Creator who loves them, you get to show them by caring for them and providing for them. Your natural and emotional love will instill instinctive value and worth into your child’s heart and mind.

As you see, the verse above tells us that God has chosen and loved us from the beginning. We get to demonstrate the unconditional love of God to our children. Yet, for us to display that to our child, it must first be alive in us. When we are alive in Christ, we can pass along that love to our kids.

The truth is that while we as parents do have a God-given instinct to love and care for our children, we are not perfect and are susceptible to the destructive habits of our parents or the impact of frustrations with life or with our children that could cause us to mistreat them or neglect them. By drawing on the love of God for ourselves, we’re then able to extend that love, mercy, and care to our children.

There will be other people who play a role in your child's development, but parents have the biggest impact and the most responsibility before God! This reading plan will look at 7 key Biblical principles from the Bible on how to raise a child. We're not just keeping our kids alive or surviving, but we'll learn how to raise Godly children who are healthy, happy, and successful.
