7 Biblical Principles on Parenting

DAY 6 OF 10

BIBLICAL PARENTING PRINCIPLE # 3: Teach & Guide

As a parent, we want to be intentional in developing and preparing our children in the ways of the Lord. By the time they move out of our homes, we want to be sure they are equipped to know and follow Jesus and to thrive and be successful in this life God has for them.

Teach As You Go

Often parents assume they aren’t qualified to teach or set their kids up well for one reason or another. We may feel like it needs to be a class or a big special setting to teach. But, Deuteronomy 6:6-9 reminds us that the principles in life are more taught as we do life, rather than in formal classroom settings. When you’re looking for it, God will give you all kinds of life lessons along the way. Everyday life challenges provide many little teachable moments.

Don’t Hide Your Story

Sometimes when we’re raising our kids, we’re not sure what to share and not to share about our past experiences. Often an adult will feel it’s best to only tell their child all of the good things they did and hide the failures of their story, but God works all things for your good, and He will work all of your child's success and failures for their good. So, showing them the teachable moments and life lessons that God taught you along the path—even when you messed up—is good for them to see and learn how to both avoid those same pitfalls and overcome their own challenges ahead.

About this Plan

7 Biblical Principles on Parenting

Children are a gift from the Lord, and you, as a parent, are God's greatest guardian, protection, and preparation gift to your child. There will be other people who play a role in your child's development, but parents have the biggest impact and the most responsibility before God! This reading plan will look at 7 key Biblical principles from the Bible on how to raise a child. We're not just keeping our kids alive or surviving, but we'll learn how to raise Godly children who are healthy, happy, and successful.
