Day 9: The Sword of the Spirit is the Word of God

Are you engaging Scripture often—at least four times a week?

People who engage with the Bible—even just a verse or two—four or more times a week grow spiritually and have fewer problems with challenging behaviors. Nothing else had nearly as much impact. It also backs up the metaphor in this scripture. The sword is the soldier’s offensive weapon in close combat. Soldiers must train with their weapons to be agile, strong, and ready for battle. Similarly, God has given us His Word to prepare us for the challenges of the world.

The "helmet of salvation" symbolizes the protection of our minds and thoughts, representing our assurance of salvation and the security of our relationship with God. It's a reminder that our salvation is secure and that we don't need to fear the devil's attacks. What better way to protect our thoughts than to fill them with Scripture?

The "sword of the Spirit" refers to the Word of God—Scripture! It is the source of our strength and power as Christians. Just as a physical sword is an offensive weapon, the Word of God is a powerful tool that we can use against the devil's attacks and to advance the gospel.

Whatever arrows may come your way, God’s Word is greater. It will overcome and outlast anything the enemy may throw your way. What a powerful shield!
