How would you define love? It seems like every song is about it, and if it’s not the main plot of a movie, it’s probably the subplot. We each have our own definitions of love based on our experiences. We say how much we love our favorite kind of chips, and in the next breath express how much we love our grandparents. Time and time again, love seems to fail, never be enough, or be just a fleeting emotion.
Could we just have the definition all wrong? Maybe love is deeper, wider, and stronger than what we have come to normalize it as. Even if this is true, it doesn’t mean we can’t experience love or try to share it with others.
The simplest definition of love is Jesus. Love provided a way when there was no other way. The divide between us and God was bridged by love. The sacrifice Jesus made was for us to be brought into the love of God. The Message translation of the Bible describes this love as extravagant and not cautious. It was an all-or-nothing kind of love, and God calls us to an all-or-nothing kind of love in return. We are to imitate Jesus’ love in our own relationships. This is a near-impossible task, but as the passage says, keep company with him and learn a life of love.

About this Plan
When Jesus was on earth, there were a few times when he told his followers exactly who he was. For the next four weeks, we'll explore some of these stories to find out how Jesus described himself to others. We'll take a look at what changes when we hear Jesus tell us he is love, he is truth, he is always with us, and how he is our Savior.
