I AMSample
Who is Jesus? It’s a great question! We get a glimpse into the answer when we study the “I AM” statements that Jesus makes throughout the Gospels. Through learning about them and understanding them, we come to know Jesus as the Bread of Life, the Good Shepherd, and so much more.
That is what this plan is going to help you with! We are going to break down the 7 statements Jesus makes that start with “I AM…”
Why “I AM”?
There are a few reasons!
The first is because Jesus wanted everyone to know Him, know His purpose on earth, and to give us the choice to follow Him. Why? Because Jesus is our Savior. Through his use of powerful statements starting with “I AM”, He is directly telling us who He is.
Another reason Jesus uses “I AM” statements is to remind us of a passage from the Old Testament. In the book of Exodus, God appears to a man named Moses through a burning bush and tells Moses to bring the Israelites out of slavery in Egypt. In response to this command, Moses asks who is sending him. God answers with the following…
“God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM”. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I AM has sent me to you.” Exodus 3:14
God calls himself “I AM”, did you catch that?
Now when Jesus uses the statement “I AM” in the New Testament, He is showing us His oneness with God. Cool, huh?
As we dive into each statement this week, I pray that you will see how Jesus is a central figure in our faith and how Jesus is God’s perfect plan for His people.
