I AMSample
I AM the bread of life.
We all hunger and thirst…sometimes even for things beyond the meals we eat. We long for a deep sense of purpose and fulfillment.
Because we are made in God’s image we can only be fulfilled by God and His purposes for us. But we can still crave and pursue other cures for our “hunger”.
Physically when we are hungry, there are things that fill us up and things we crave. A lot of times these things are not one and the same.
We crave chips, Oreos, soda, etc. These types of foods don’t fill us up but leave us wanting more.
Spiritually, we are often guilty of the same kind of thing, we try to appease our longing with the wrong things. Things like popularity, relationships, money, the newest iPhone, the coolest clothes, status, and academic success. You name it, and someone probably uses that to fill the God-sized hole in their lives.
However, when we realize that Jesus is the Bread of Life, we know that pursuing the things of God and the things God wants for us is the only path to true satisfaction.
Why is it such a big deal to never hunger or thirst again? Think about it this way, what does that free you from?
Physically, if we never had to eat again, it saves us time, it saves us money, and it saves us the argument of “where do you want to eat?” that happens every Saturday night at my house.
Spiritually, if we never hungered then we find true rest. We’d put down the need to impress people, the need to have the coolest shoes or phone or clothes, the need to always be the best on the team, etc.
True satisfaction can only be found in Jesus. And that is why He is the Bread of Life. He satisfies the longings in our souls.

About this Plan
Who is Jesus? We get a glimpse into that answer through studying some of the I AM statements that Jesus makes throughout the Gospels. Through understanding the I AM statements, we come to know Jesus as the Bread of Life, the Light of the World, the Good Shepherd, our Savior.
