I AM

DAY 4 OF 8

I AM the door of the sheep.

Did you know that back in Jesus’ day that pastures for sheep only had one entrance? Sheep were led through the opening of a walled-in pasture by a shepherd. But there was no door, or gate, just an opening in a wall. The door for the sheep was the actual shepherd.

He’d lay down in front of the entrance so that sheep could not get out and get lost, and wolves could not get in to harm the sheep.

Amazing!

So what does that mean that Jesus says I AM the door of the sheep?

It means that Jesus is our protector. And it also means He is our only way to gain access to eternal life.

In the verses we are going to read today, we will see how Jesus says

“I gave come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” (John 10:10)

Meaning, we are freed from our sin, and safe in the protection of Jesus because He sacrificed Himself for us.

This moment in Scripture also brings up how others will try come and kill and destroy, but that Jesus came to save us and give us full and abundant life in Him.

We are safe in His pasture forever.

About this Plan

I AM

Who is Jesus? We get a glimpse into that answer through studying some of the I AM statements that Jesus makes throughout the Gospels. Through understanding the I AM statements, we come to know Jesus as the Bread of Life, the Light of the World, the Good Shepherd, our Savior.
