Read Acts 2:42-47. In your journal, make a list of the things that the followers of Jesus did once they became believers.

Look at the list. What are things from the list that you do with your community? What are things that don’t make sense in your situation?

The end of Acts 2 shows us that the new believers listened to the apostles and then changed their lifestyles according to what they said. If we are following Jesus, this should be our goal! We may not live with the apostles, but we can surround ourselves with people who pray, teach, and live according to what God’s word says. And we can change our actions based on how the Holy Spirit leads us.

Have you ever written down a testimony? A testimony is a story about how someone’s life changed because of Jesus. The word testimony is often referring to the story about how you first decided to follow Jesus, but you can also have a testimony about other things in your Christian life. For example, one day you could be saying hurtful words to a kid in your class. Then you could go to small group and hear a friend talk about a Bible verse or a story that makes you think about how you are treating them. Finally, you might change the way you treat the kid in your class because of something Jesus has done in your heart based on the Bible or a nudge from the Holy Spirit. This is the kind of story other people need to hear.

Take the next few minutes to write a testimony about something in your life. Begin with: Before I changed, I used to __________________. Then, (this) happened, and taught me that because of Jesus I should ________________________. Now I live this way: __________________________________. Be prepared to share your story about how your relationship with Jesus led you to change the way you live with your small group.
