WEEK 3, DAY 4—HEARING GOD'S VOICE
You may have heard people say that “God speaks to you.” The concept of a spiritual God speaking to you can seem daunting, but it’s actually quite simple. Because we have a relationship with God, and because God is spirit, he can speak to us. He can do this in many different ways.
The primary way God speaks to us through his Word. Hebrews 4:12 tells us that God’s word is “living and alive.” Even though it was written thousands of years ago, it has the power to help us in our situation. You may be feeling anxious, but when you read a Bible verse about God giving you peace, it helps your anxiety. That’s God speaking to you through his word!
God also speaks through our prayers! Remember, prayer is not a one-way street—it’s a conversation. As you make space to listen to God through prayer, he will speak to you and give you direction. Bring your struggles and worries to God, and let him show you his will in them.
God also speaks through his Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit functions a little bit like our conscience. As we know his voice more and more, we get more in-tune with his guidance. As you journey through life with the Holy Spirit, you will learn to recognize when and where he is guiding you.
The most important thing to remember is that God loves to speak to his children! It’s not complicated. Make space to listen to God, and he will speak to you!
