‘You of Little Faith’

In a conversation with His disciples, Jesus says, “If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move.” Jesus places the emphasis on faith.

That raises honest questions.
Do you have faith?
How is your faith?

When life feels overwhelming, it is easy to assume the problem is a lack of faith. You might think, “This situation is too big. I need more faith to handle it.” In Luke’s Gospel, even the disciples say, “Increase our faith!” They believe faith must grow in proportion to the challenges they face.

But Jesus offers a different perspective.

Jesus does not focus on the size of faith. He focuses on where faith is placed. As it is put in this episode of The Chosen, “It’s not about size, Philip. It’s about who your faith is in.”

When you focus on how strong your faith feels, the pressure stays on you. You start measuring yourself, wondering if you have enough belief to make things work. Jesus shifts that burden. Faith is not about quantity. It is about trust.

So the better question becomes this: who or what do you trust?

Do you trust your resources, your health, your influence, or your knowledge? Or do you place your trust in Jesus?

Faith and trust are deeply connected. Trust is not measured by size or intensity. It is measured by the foundation you stand on.

Picture yourself abseiling down a steep cliff. You lean back and place all your weight on a single rope. The rope does not become stronger because you trust it more. Its strength exists whether your confidence feels shaky or solid. What matters is that the rope can hold you.

Jesus is like that. Your faith may feel small. It may feel fragile. But Jesus remains strong. He does not change based on how confident you feel.

The invitation is simple but profound: place your trust in Jesus. Let Him carry the weight. He does not fail. He does not let go. With Him as your foundation, you are secure.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, I admit that I often place my trust in things other than You. Today, I choose again to trust You alone and build my life on You. Help me stop focusing on the size of my faith and start resting in who You are. Carry me where I feel weak, and teach me to trust You more deeply. Amen.
