Sustenance (S3-E8)Sample

Compass
You see sadness, suffering, and pain everyday. Sometimes it’s distant, something happening somewhere else, shown on a screen. Other times, it comes close. It enters your own life without warning. Someone gets sick, you lose your job, or your business collapses. Then the right words become hard to find.
In The Chosen, Eden experiences a miscarriage. The sorrow she carries is overwhelming. It is the kind of loss that cannot be rushed or explained away.
Where do you turn in moments like that? What gives you direction when the ground seems to have fallen out beneath you? How do you move forward?
Two things matter deeply here.
First, make sure you make room for your pain.
What you are carrying is real. You do not need to minimize it or push past it too quickly. The depth of your grief reflects the depth of what mattered to you. Allow yourself to grieve. Let it be an active process. Move through it honestly, and do not hesitate to ask for help when you need it.
One of the most beautiful scenes in The Chosen shows Mary sitting beside Eden. She does not rush her or fix her pain. She simply stays. Presence matters. Who are you allowing to sit with you right now?
Second, you need a compass.
Pain can leave you disoriented, unsure which way to go. Eden longs to speak only with Jesus, which makes sense. But Mary gently points her toward the words of God. Scripture describes those words as a lamp to your feet and a light on your path.
God’s word does not erase grief. It guides you through it. Like a flashlight in the dark, it gives enough light for the next step.
When grief feels overwhelming, let His words give direction. When you feel lost, let His promises speak hope. You do not have to figure everything out today. Let His light lead you, one step at a time.
Reflection Questions
- Are there losses or pains you still need to grieve honestly?
- Who can walk alongside you in that process?
- What role does God’s word play in your healing right now?
Prayer
Lord Jesus, life is sometimes beautiful and sometimes deeply painful. The brokenness around me and within me hurts. I bring it all to You because it is too heavy for me alone. You know my situation and my sorrow. Please guide me, comfort me, and speak Your words of life and hope into my heart today. I need You. Amen.
