Evangelize Everywhere

DAY 2 OF 5

Evangelism Explained

What exactly does it mean to evangelize? I'm going to answer this with a bold statement. Evangelism is not simply inviting someone to church. That may be a part of it—your church and pastor are great! But you're actually equipped to do more than invite people to church! We'll discuss that later.

In 2 Timothy 4:5, Paul encourages Timothy to do the work of an evangelist. Evangelist is euangelistēs in Greek, which means "a messenger of good." In Mark 16:15, Jesus encourages the disciples to "Preach the Gospel". The Gospel here in Greek is euangelion, which means "proclaiming glad tidings" or simply the good news of Jesus' death, burial, and resurrection.

Thus, evangelism is fundamentally about sharing the good news of Jesus Christ. While inviting people to church is important (and you should extend those invites when you share the Gospel), effective evangelism means being able to share the message of Jesus Christ on your own, without relying on someone else or a pastor to do the work for you. Every believer has the responsibility to share this incredible news with the world.

Sharing Jesus's testimony is essential to evangelism. To substantially increase the 1% of people who believe they are gifted to evangelize, we have to understand what it means and how to do it. In the next day, we will help equip you or remind you of this important gift that Jesus provided us through His life, death, and resurrection.
