Rich Dad, Poor SonSample

DAY 2: SON MINDSET VS SLAVE MINDSET
Welcome to Day 2.
Jesus was intentional when choosing the word “Father” to refer to God. According to studies, He called Him Father over 150 times and used the term “Lord” fewer than ten times, usually when quoting Old Testament passages (Matthew 4:7). This 15-to-1 ratio speaks volumes about the type of relationship Jesus had with God and the one He wants us to have. He invites us to approach God not just as servants but as sons and daughters.
How do you see God? As Master or as Father? This perception will shape how you live your faith. Those who see God as Master often:
- Obey out of fear rather than love.
- Live constantly seeking approval.
- Serve as if trying to earn a reward.
On the other hand, those who see God as Father:
- Obey from a place of love and relationship.
- Rest securely in their identity as children, even after failure.
- Serve with joy, knowing that everything the Father has belongs to them (Luke 15:31).
The older brother in the parable of the prodigal son never left home, yet lived with the mindset of a slave. He obeyed, he served, but he never asked for anything. Although he had access to everything, his perception of the father limited him to living a restricted, joyless faith.
Many times, we do the same. We serve, pray, and worship but fail to enjoy our inheritance. Not because God withholds it, but because we don’t feel worthy to ask. Our faith becomes transactional rather than relational.
God is Lord, yes, but before that, He is our Father. If we see Him only as Master, we will live in fear. When we see Him as Father, we live in trust.
----
REFLECTION:
- Does your spiritual life reflect a confident son or a fearful servant?
Today is a good day to step back into your place as a child of God, where obedience flows from love and abundance is not a reward but an inheritance.
----
MEDITATION:
Abundance is one of the benefits of a Father-child relationship. If your focus is only on abundance, you may end up like the prodigal son, valuing the blessings more than the relationship. That path is dangerous and leads to darkness.
Take a few minutes to reflect on how you see God. Ask Him: “Am I living like Your child… or like Your servant?”
