30 Days in Proverbs

DAY 9 OF 30

Proverbs 9 opens with two women calling out to us—Wisdom and Folly—and it invites us to make a choice. Solomon sets up two very different feasts, two very different paths, and it’s up to us which one we follow.

First, there’s Wisdom. She’s built her house on strong pillars, prepared a grand feast, and is inviting anyone who is simple or lacking understanding to come in. Her invitation is warm and nurturing, like a loving host welcoming you into her home. Her feast isn’t just food—it’s knowledge, insight, and understanding for the soul. Accepting her invitation nourishes us and helps us walk with discernment every day.

Then there’s Folly. She’s loud, brash, and enticing, calling to anyone who will listen. She tempts with stolen water and bread eaten in secret, offering quick pleasure and secrecy. But the cost is high—Folly’s path leads to destruction and regret. It’s tempting, but it’s empty.

Proverbs 9 doesn’t sugarcoat it: the choice is ours. Wisdom calls, and those who heed her call find life, direction, and fulfillment. Ignoring her or following Folly brings harm. The chapter makes it clear that the decisions we make matter—they shape the course of our lives.

What I love about this chapter is how personal it feels. Wisdom isn’t distant; she’s calling to you right now. Her feast is ready. She wants to guide your steps and help you live a life that’s meaningful and full.

We are reminded that life is a series of choices. Each day, we get to choose between the fleeting pleasures of Folly and the lasting, life-giving guidance of Wisdom. Choosing wisdom is a path that leads to understanding, purpose, and a life aligned with God’s heart.

As you reflect on Proverbs 9, take a moment to listen for Wisdom’s call. She’s inviting you to her table—choose her, and let your path be lit by the guidance of God’s truth.

About this Plan

30 Days in Proverbs

Proverbs is one of the most practical books in the Bible. It’s not a list of promises to lean on, but principles to live by—wisdom for our words, our work, our relationships, and our choices. Over the next 30 days, we’ll walk through Proverbs one chapter at a time, uncovering what it looks like to live wisely in the everyday.
