Over the Hill & Picking Up SpeedSample

You and I - Sons and Daughters of the Living God
Scripture
“For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” (Ephesians 2:10 NLT)
“Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.” (Romans 12:2 NLT)
Reflection
The New Testament highlights that older believers—especially those over 60—were not only respected but actively empowered for ministry, leadership, teaching, prophecy, and mentoring. Age was seen as a strength, not a setback, in serving God's kingdom.
God created us anew in Christ to fulfill His purpose for our lives, and His plans are not limited by time or age. He doesn't require us to complete our calling by a certain birthday. Until the day He calls us home, we are to pursue our Kingdom purpose wholeheartedly.
Consider the message of the poem, The Dash, by Linda Ellis, which reflects on how the small dash between our birth and death dates represents the entirety of our life and what we choose to do with it.
We all grow older daily, but aging does not diminish our value or usefulness to God. Like those in Scripture, we can still gain momentum in our later years. Being "over the hill" can mean picking up speed—it’s up to us.
Application
Take time to quietly listen for the Holy Spirit and reflect on how He is using or can use you to impact God's Kingdom through your life.
Prayer
Father, forgive me for limiting Your plans for my life. I surrender to Your will and choose to partner with You in whatever way You desire to use me, no matter my age. You are the God who gives me a future and a hope.

About this Plan

Aging is often seen as slowing down - but what if it's just the beginning of your most purposeful season? This 9-day devotional challenges cultural views on aging and highlights how God continues to call, empower, and use people in their later years. Through the lives of biblical figures like Moses, Caleb, and Anna, you’ll see that purpose doesn’t fade with age. In God’s Kingdom, every season matters—and maturity can bring momentum.
